ARTIST STATEMENT

My artistic intent is to create forms that are deeply personal and yet communicate universally. I work to make art that the eye and hand can linger on, that will draw the viewer to take it in - in a sumptuous and inclusive manner.

My work plays with organic forms that come together - and in the space where they meet they create a hard-edged linear element. I feel that something interesting occurs where the organic and the hard-edged areas meet.

I try to create works that are a complete statement unto themselves - the shape feels whole and tells its own story independent of its environment. It is the simplicity of these forms that appeals to me. Many times they begin as more complex statements and I have to “take away” until there is an essence left that is actually stronger than its more complicated beginnings.

I am currently exploring new mediums and combinations of media - from Corten steel, to clay, bronze, and steel, to clay and aluminum, and to clay and steel.
